In 1989, a company called RRW, Inc. was founded by an ex-IBM Field Service Technician named Gennaro Minickene. Before the PC revolution in the mid-eighties, there was a large demand for third party IBM Mid-Range and Mainframe services including peripheral repair, support and maintenance. From IBM’s System 36’s, 38’s, and AS-400’s, CST was housed in a large warehouse and offices in Meriden, CT to accommodate the large machinery; both for refurbishment/resale and maintenance.
As time passed and the industry evolved, RRW was seeing the increased use of IBM’s Personal Computers in the workplace. Starting with the original IBM PC, XT and the ever-popular AT Personal Computer, MIS Directors were realizing that the local power of such machines could mean millions in bottom-line savings in worker productivity despite their $4,000/unit price tag.
It was in the early 1990's when Gennaro's sons Basil [Buzz] & John Minickene graduated from college and joined their father’s business. Collectively they saw the industry’s PC trend and with the surge of the Internet, convinced him that although IBM would still be a cornerstone partner of RRW, that RRW had to evolve to incorporate server-based networks including manufacturer’s like Cisco, HP, IBM, Microsoft, Compaq, WYSE & Novell. The business transformed overnight and Client Server Technology was born.
